The city of Londonderry or Derry in Northern Ireland will have the prestigious honor of being the only city in the whole of United Kingdom to get access to the super fast fibre broadband with complete connectivity. This in turn means that all the six thousand businesses and twenty one thousand homes in the city will have access to the next generation of internet connectivity. This is offered by the British communication giant British Telecom. The company has been at the helm of all things when it comes to the fibre broadband connectivity. It is spreading its reach by the day in the whole of United Kingdom and looking at giving complete fibre broadband connectivity by the year 2015.
The company has already started with its infinity packages that offer tremendous download speeds of as much as 40 MB and more. Then there are the six leading areas in England which won the infinity contest. These are namely Baschurch in Shropshire, Blewbury in Oxfordshire, Caxton in Cambridgeshire, Innerleithen in the Scottish Borders, Madingley in Cambridgeshire and Whitchurch in Hampshire. These areas if not for the contest won, might have seen still some years before enjoying the superfast broadband speeds. As many as three hundred and sixty thousand votes were casted on the overall which showed the positive response as given by the common people and their high expectations with their super fast internet. BT Openreach will also conduct a survey in these six regions and they are expected to receive the broadband speeds by the year 2012 itself.
Derry in the mean while is also stated to be the UK City of Culture in 2013. BT is spending as much as £3m on infrastructure to offer the superfast internet to the city and is in a five year deal with it.
